Swedish furniture giant to launch online services in North India from 1st March
Ikea has officially entered the National Capital Region, marking a significant expansion of its footprint in India. From 1st March, the Swedish furniture retailer will begin ecommerce operations in Delhi-NCR and nine other key markets in North India, ahead of its plans to open full-size stores in Gurugram and Noida within the next 2-3 years.
Apart from Delhi-NCR, Ikea’s online delivery service will be available in Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Varanasi. The company has also introduced same-day delivery within this zone, catering to the growing demand for faster order fulfilment in an era dominated by quick commerce.
The shift towards an ecommerce-first approach signals a change in Ikea’s traditional strategy, which has largely focused on establishing physical stores before scaling online operations. “Over 30 per cent of our sales currently come from online, making ecommerce a powerful and fast-growing channel for Ikea in India,” said Susanne Pulverer, CEO of Ikea India. This approach not only enables the brand to reach more customers efficiently but also helps in tailoring future stores to local consumer preferences.
Despite embracing faster deliveries, the company is still assessing the feasibility of a 10-minute delivery model for its products. In addition to its online expansion, Ikea will open three pop-up stores in Nexus Select CityWalk, DLF Mall of India, and DLF CyberHub, offering customers a preview of its signature designs and home solutions.
To support its North India operations, Ikea has also set up a 1.8 lakh sq ft customer distribution centre in Gurugram, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing accessibility and service efficiency.
