Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday at India Mobile Congress (IMC) that nearly 80 per cent of the equipment used in 5G technology is produced within. He further highlighted that locally designed and manufactured telecom equipment is exported to 72 countries in the world.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress in Pragati Maidan, Vaishnaw said, “There are so many companies, which have started design and manufacture in India and today they have become exporters of equipment. India-designed and manufactured telecom equipment is exported to a total of 72 countries today.”

While stressing on the quality of 5G telecom products, he stressed that India-made products were competing with global markets in terms of quality.

The Minister noted that companies are developing intellectual property (IP) within India. He mentioned that 40-50 per cent of intellectual property rights (IPR) patents are filed in the telecom sector.

He further said that after robust 5G service growth in India, 6G vision is clear under PM Modi’s vision. Regarding satellite communications, he said the technology will play a crucial role in expanding the service to remote and rural areas and reduce the digital divide.
