The India traditional PC (Personal Computer) market, which includes desktops, notebooks and workstations, reached 4.5 million units in third quarter of FY23, up 14 per cent year-over-year (YoY) according to a new report.
During the quarter, the notebook category grew by 13.1 percent YoY, while the desktop category grew by 19.3 per cent and the overall commercial segment was flat but the consumer segment grew by 26.3 per cent YoY.
A portion of the Gujarat education project materialised in Q3 to drive the education segment’s growth of 117.5 per cent YoY, noted IDC’s report. Meanwhile, the e-tailer channel grew 26.4 per cent YoY after four consecutive declines as e-tailers geared up for festival sales.
“The consumer segment saw strong traction in 3Q23 after a challenging past four quarters. In August, the Government of India declared a mandatory requirement of import licenses for PCs from October 30th. Though this decision was later put on hold, vendors shipped significant channel inventory to avoid any risks of supply shortages or price hikes, not to mention ensuring sufficient supplies for festival season sales,” said Bharath Shenoy, Senior Research Analyst, IDC India.
According to the report, HP topped the chart with a market share of 29.4 per cent in Q3 23. The company also topped the charts in both the commercial and consumer segments with shares of 34.3 per cent and 25.9 per cent, respectively. Lenovo secured second place with a market share of 17 per cent as its shipments fell 8.8 per cent YoY.
Dell Technologies secured third place, accounting for 14.6 per cent of the total market share in India. During the quarter, Asus sold more than five lakh units in the consumer segment and held the fourth position, accounting for 12.5 per cent of the total sales. Last on the list is Acer Group with 11.6 per cent market share.
