Lala Kedarnath Aggarwal, the person who used to sell snacks like bhujia and rasgullas in buckets on the streets of old Delhi, has passed away at the age of 86. He later went on to establish the well-known sweets and snacks brand called Bikanervala.
“Marked the end of an era that has enriched palates and touched countless lives,” Bikanervala said in a statement.
The company, Bikanervala, has more than 60 stores in India and is also in places like the USA, New Zealand, Singapore, Nepal, and the UAE.
Kedarnath Aggarwal began his business journey in Delhi.
Originally from Bikaner, Kedarnath Aggarwal’s family had a sweet shop in the city since 1905 called Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar.
In the early 1950s, Kedarnath and his brother, Satyanarayan, moved to Delhi with big dreams. They brought their family recipes with them and started by selling bhujia and rasgulla on the streets of old Delhi, facing initial struggles.
Despite the challenges, their hard work paid off, and people in Delhi started recognising and enjoying the unique taste of Bikaner’s snacks.
The Aggarwal brothers then opened a shop in Delhi’s Chandini Chowk, using the family recipes passed down through generations.
Their specialties like Moong Dal Halwa, Bikaneri Bhujia, and Kaju Katli made Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar, and later Bikanervala, well-known and loved by many.
