Valentine’s Day Sales Skyrocket for Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, Dunzo, and Zepto as Flowers, Cakes, Teddies, and Surprising Trends Take Center Stage
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the food and quick commerce sector, platforms including Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, Dunzo and Zepto, have experienced substantial growth.
The firms reported a significant surge in items ordered like flowers, teddies, perfumes chocolates, cakes and condoms.
Swiggy Instamart stocked up 1.5 million fresh flowers during Valentine’s Day. After roses, cakes became the second-best ordered, with 409 cakes per minute (CPM) on the same day.
“Roses have been flying off the shelves since early this morning. But keep ordering! After crossing the million roses mark last year, Swiggy instamart has stocked up on 1.5 million fresh roses and is geared up to spread love this Rose Day and throughout Valentine’s week,” Rohit Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer – Food MarketPlace, Swiggy said in a post on X.
Apart from Roses, Swiggy Instamart beat its record compared to last year by selling 409 cakes per minute (CPM) as of 6 PM on V-day.
Known best for delivering groceries in minutes, Zomato-owned Blinkit also reported high sales of roses & bouquets, chocolates and most teddies in a day, Albinder Dhindsa, CEO, Blinkit revealed.
According to reports, the second most ordered gifts were teddies; more teddies were sold on Valentine’s Day than on Teddy Day. “We are selling more teddy bears and soft toys as compared to 10 February. Glad the team took a big enough bet on these for today too,” Dhindsa wrote in a post on X.
Its rival also reported a 4.1-fold spike in Teddies orders on V-day.
Additionally, condoms were also on the list of the consumers of these platforms during the Valentine’s orders. Swiggy Instamart reported a 1.4 X surge in its contraceptive orders.
“We’ve sold 4X more condoms compared to a regular Wednesday. And I’m told that we’ll get more demand in the next couple of hours,” Dhindsa said.
According to a checkout service provider, Simpl revealed that overall food, beverages and quick commerce (Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, Dunzo and Zepto) reported 36 per cent growth during Valentine’s day.
