India Post, TRIFED Tie Up To Boost Tribal Ecommerce

MoU aims to strengthen logistics, expand market access for tribal artisans nationwide

The Department of Posts has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India to strengthen logistics support for tribal ecommerce and expand market access for indigenous products.

The collaboration aims to create a robust, reliable and cost-effective logistics framework for products sold via Trifed’s online platforms, including the Tribes India e-marketplace.

Under the agreement, India Post will provide end-to-end logistics solutions covering order pickup, transmission and last-mile delivery across the country. Leveraging its extensive nationwide network, the postal department will ensure seamless fulfilment of ecommerce orders, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

The partnership is expected to significantly improve the reach of tribal artisans and entrepreneurs by enabling efficient order processing and timely delivery, thereby enhancing customer experience. In addition to logistics, the Department of Posts will offer shipment tracking, management information system (MIS) reporting and API integration with Trifed’s digital platforms to streamline operations.

As part of the arrangement, a Book Now Pay Later (BNPL) facility will be extended to Trifed under the National Account framework, allowing for simplified booking and payment processes through Speed Post services.

Trifed will be responsible for packaging, labelling and sharing order-related information to ensure smooth logistics execution. The initiative will also involve product pickups from multiple regional centres, ensuring broad geographic coverage and operational efficiency.

The move aligns with the government’s broader push to integrate tribal communities into the digital economy and promote inclusive growth. By strengthening logistics infrastructure for tribal ecommerce, the partnership is expected to enhance income opportunities for artisans while expanding the availability of authentic tribal products to consumers nationwide.

The MoU will remain in force for an initial period of two years, with scope for extension based on performance and mutual agreement.
