Rising demand for costumes, decor, and confectionery marks India’s growing embrace of global celebrations
Bigbasket, a Tata Enterprise, reported sales soaring 400 per cent year-on-year during Halloween 2025, in the festive category. The surge was led by strong consumer demand for costumes, masks, wigs, party decor, and confectionery.
Costumes and accessories topped the charts, recording over 500 per cent growth, while themed decor and lighting rose 400 per cent. The trend was most pronounced in metro cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad, where communities hosted Halloween parties and Trick-or-Treat events.
India’s sweet tooth added to the celebration, with the chocolate and confectionery segment rising 136 per cent year-on-year. Marshmallows, candies, and jellies saw a massive 712 per cent jump, followed by toffees, lollipops, and candies at 291 per cent, and chocolates at 114 per cent.
“Halloween has evolved from a niche occasion to a household celebration in India. This year’s remarkable response shows how our customers are looking for new ways to celebrate and create memorable experiences”, said Seshu Kumar, Chief Buying and Merchandising Officer, Bigbasket.
Bigbasket’s curated Halloween Store, introduced earlier in October, was a key growth driver, offering a wide range of festive products from spooky decor to party essentialsdelivered within minutes.
During Diwali 2025, the platform recorded a remarkable 500 per cent year-on-year growth in overall festive sales, driven primarily by electronics (iPhones, home appliances, audio equipment) and traditional festive categories. Additionally, during Durga Puja and Dussehra 2025, the company saw 36 per cent growth in idol sales and 42 per cent growth in dhunuchis compared to the previous year, with pooja essentials surging by 128 per cent.
Bigbasket’s approach to seasonal sales combines 10-minute delivery capability with culturally relevant product assortments. The company operates over 700 dark stores across more than 60 Indian cities.
