Two-screen cinema at 11,500 feet marks Leh’s first multiplex under FOCO model, the company claimed
PVR Inox has opened a two-screen multiplex in Leh, Ladakh, marking the first modern cinema facility in the region, the company said on Saturday.
Located at Solar Colony in Saboo along the Leh–Manali Bypass Road, the property sits at around 11,500 feet above sea level, making it the highest-altitude multiplex in India. The cinema has been developed under PVR INOX’s Franchise Owned Company Operated (FOCO) model.
The multiplex is equipped with 2K digital projection, Dolby 7.1 surround sound and Next-Gen 3D technology. Given the challenges posed by thin air at high altitude, the company said it has installed a customised audio system using German-engineered components to maintain sound clarity.
The Leh property also includes a food court developed in partnership with Devyani International, housing brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Costa Coffee and Vaango. This is the first organised food court in the town, according to the company.
“With this launch, PVR Inox now operates 1,774 screens across 356 properties in 112 cities in India and Sri Lanka,” the company said in a statement.
Ajay Bijli, Managing Director, PVR Inox, said, “Launching a multiplex in Leh is a truly proud moment for us. Few places in the world offer a setting as extraordinary as Ladakh, and bringing worldclass cinema to 11,500 feet reflects our commitment to reaching audiences everywhere.”
Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, PVR Inox, said the Leh opening aligns with the company’s strategy of expanding into underserved regions while maintaining uniform cinema standards.
PVR Inox is India’s largest cinema exhibition company, formed following the merger of PVR and Inox Leisure, and operates multiple premium and mass-market cinema formats across the country.
