Cooperative ride-hailing platform targets major cities and talukas, government saysplatform has already registered 4 lakh drivers

The government on Wednesday said the cooperative ride-hailing platform Bharat Taxi will be rolled out across major cities and talukas over the next two to three years.

Responding to queries in the Rajya Sabha on employment generation through cooperative societies, Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal said the Bharat Taxi initiative was launched to empower drivers and improve their earnings.

“Its booking can be done easily through the mobile app. It has full guarantee of security and also provides complete transparency. It has been integrated with Delhi Police,” Pal said.

According to the minister, the service is currently operating in Delhi-NCR as well as in several cities in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath and Dwarka.

“In the next two or three years, we will take the service to all big cities and talukas. I would like to tell the House that up till now, 4 lakh drivers have been registered with it,” Pal said.

The platform was launched last month by Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah as India’s first ride-hailing service run under a cooperative framework.

Developed by eight leading cooperative organisations in the country, including dairy major Amul, the Bharat Taxi platform aims to provide drivers with greater income opportunities while also giving them a stake in ownership of the service.
