Bata Corporation CEO Sandeep Kataria Steps Down: Reports

The reports note that Sandeep Kataria is expected to stay on for six months to support the leadership transition

Nearly five years after becoming the first Indian to lead the footwear major, Sandeep Kataria has stepped down as the Bata Corporation’s global chief executive officer (CEO), as per media reports. The official confirmation on the development is expected this week.

The reports noted that the company has already started the succession plans, and Kataria is expected to stay on for six months. He will be supporting the leadership transition, the reports highlighted. While the details of the outgoing global CEO is not known yet, the reports cited sources saying that he might pursue other professional opportunities.

The recent move marks an end to Kataria’s eight-year stint at Bata, where he was the CEO of Bata India for around two years. He then went to become the President of Bata India in April 2019 before being made the Global CEO of the Bata group in December 2020.

Prior to Bata, Kataria served as the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Vodafone, nearly a decade back. From September 2013 to July 2015, he was the General Manger of Pizza Hut United Kingdom and Europe, as per the information on his LinkedIn profile.

Under his direction, Bata enhanced its positioning in markets across Asia, Europe and Africa. The company modernised its brand identity, streamlined operations and strengthened design-led innovation during his tenure.
