South Korea’s K-food trend is expanding beyond instant noodles and entertainment, with fried chicken chain bb.q Chicken (best of the best quality) entering the Indian market. The flagship brand of Genesis bb.q Group will open its first two outlets in Bengaluru in June, marking its India debut.

The company plans to expand further with an outlet in Hyderabad in July, followed by additional locations in Chennai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, and Vellore. It expects to have 7–8 outlets operational in India by the end of 2026.

Globally, the brand operates more than 2,300 outlets in South Korea and nearly 1,000 in international markets. The United States is its largest overseas market. The company is also planning entry into Europe this year.

In India, bb.q Chicken aims to scale up to around 30 outlets by 2027 and 150 outlets by 2031. Its initial expansion will focus on South India, with plans to open over 60 outlets in the region over the next four years.

Honggeun Yoon, Chairman of Genesis BBQ Group, said India is among the company’s most important markets. “If there are three strongest countries in the world, it would be the US, China, and India,” he said.

Duhyeon Yun (Chris), Global CEO, said India could contribute 15–20% of the group’s global business within five years, driven by a young, digitally connected consumer base and increasing exposure to international food trends.

Korean cuisine has seen increased presence in India. Companies such as Nestle, HUL, and ITC have introduced Korean-inspired products, while quick-service restaurant chains, including KFC, have added Korean-flavoured fried chicken to their menus.

India’s food services sector continues to grow, with increasing influence from global cuisines, particularly among younger consumers.
