Amazon Claims Attracting 38 Cr Customer Visits In 2 Days During AGIF

Amazon's Secondhand Sales Boom In UK As Consumers Seek Sustainable Alternatives

Customers across the country are showing a marked preference for premium products like side-by-side refrigerators, advanced washing machines, energy-efficient split air conditioners

The Amazon Great Indian Festival, which opened for prime members on 22 September and for all customers on 23 September, has attracted over 38 crore customer visits in the first two days. The company said that over 70 per cent customers came from beyond top nine metros.

Customers availed savings with Goods and Services Tax (GST) benefits, access to more than one lakh products and over 30,000 new products introduced across categories including smartphones, laptops, televisions, fashion and beauty.

“The first 48 hours have been our biggest ever, with an unprecedented 38 crore customer visits and the highest number of prime members shopping during prime early access. The GST Bachat Utsav initiative has been incredibly well-received, with sellers passing on GST benefits worth crores in just 48 hours through our dedicated storefront featuring home appliances, electronics, daily essentials, healthcare, fashion, and more,” highlighted Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President, Amazon India.

Prime members drove demand from tier 2 and 3 cities across key categories including appliances, fashion and beauty, smartphones, and furniture. Amazon Business also saw a healthy response from its customers, as new business customer sign-ups in the first 24 hours grew by six-times above an average business day. Businesses also appreciated the bulk discounts offered by sellers, with bulk orders growing 4.4-times over average business days, the official statement noted.

Kitchen appliances saw 50% per cent more eco-friendly units sold year-on-year (YoY) as consumers balanced sustainability with cost savings. Grocery essentials like beverages, oils, and cereals grew 15 per cent YoYy following GST benefits, while high-protein foods and spreads from direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands surged 27 per cent YoY.

The company added that customers across the country are showing a marked preference for premium products like side-by-side refrigerators, advanced washing machines, energy-efficient split air conditioners and fans, air fryers, among others. Smartphones witnessed strong double digit growth with segment above Rs 20,000 growing 50 per cent YoY driven by premiumisation.

Premium TVs showed strong momentum, with QLED models up 23 per cent and Mini-LED TVs growing 27 per cent YoY. Laptop sales surged, with the MacBook Air M4 performing at 94-times business-as-usual levels. Lab diamonds saw ten-times growth, Korean beauty products increased over 3-times YoY, and premium watches achieved 1.5 to 2 times growth on a YoY basis.
