Through Splitpay, a user can enter the bill amount, select the number of people, the group splits the bill and everyone pays in a few taps inside the District app
District by Zomato, the going out platform has introduced ‘Splitpay’, a feature designed to eliminate the social and financial friction of group dining. Built directly into the District app, the company says that Splitpay allows everyone at the table to settle their share on the spot.
The brand noted that a user can enter the bill amount, select the number of people, the group splits the bill and everyone pays in a few taps inside the District app. Each diner also earns cashback on their individual share, the company added.
“A meal out belongs to the whole table, but it has always ended with the least social moment: one person paying and everyone else doing maths. It is something we noticed at restaurant tables, on social media and in conversations with our users, so we built Splitpay to fix it,” stated Rahul Ganjoo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), District by Zomato.
To anchor the rollout, District has released a campaign film starring actors Boman Irani and Anupam Kher as two friends locked in the familiar ritual of fighting over who pays at the end of a meal. The tussle escalates from a polite reach for the bill to a full physical scuffle, peaking with Anupam Kher stuffing the bill into his mouth to stop his friend from paying.
