Eternal Receives Over Rs 40 Cr Tax Demand, Penalty From GST Authority

Eternal notes that it has received three orders on 25 August 2025 for the period July 2017 to March 2020, passed by the Joint Commissioner, Appeals-4, Bengaluru

Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, has received orders from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department, imposing a tax demand of over Rs 40 crore. This includes interest and penalty as well, the company said in an exchange filing.

The company noted that it has received three orders on 25 August 2025 for the period July 2017 to March 2020, passed by the Joint Commissioner, Appeals-4, Bengaluru. The company will be filing appeals against the orders before the appropriate authority, the statement added.

“We believe that we have a strong case on the merits, backed by view from lawyers, and do not expect any financial impact on the company. The company will be filing appeals against the orders before the appropriate authority,” Eternal added in its statement.

The orders confirmed a total demand of GST of Rs 17,19,11,762 ( Rs 17.19 crore), with interest of Rs 21,42,14,791 (Rs 21.42 crore) and penalty of Rs 1,71,91,177 (Rs 1.71 crore). The demand orders have been received with respect to short payment of output tax with interest and penalty thereon and to excess availment of input tax credit with interest and penalty thereon.
