As the online food delivery platforms are preparing to cash in on the festive season demand surge, Zomato has hiked the platform fee on food delivery orders to Rs 12 from Rs 10, as per media reports. The fee excludes Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The reports noted that the move follows Swiggy’s recent fee hike, where the company increased its platform fee to Rs 14 in select pincodes. The reports emphasised that Zomato, which is owned by Eternal, saw a 16 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth on gross order value at Rs 10,769 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year (Q1FY26).
With Rapido entering the food delivery market with its new food delivery service Ownly, the competition in the segment is set to intensify. Ownly is looking to position itself as a budget-friendly option with lower restaurant commission rates.
In an earlier development, Eternal has incorporated its wholly-owned subsidiary Blinkit Foods, the company said in a stock exchange filing. This debut enhances Blinkit’s previous business, Bistro, which was introduced earlier and is owned by Zomato. Initially running as a pilot in a few areas of Gurugram, Bistro is a quick-commerce food delivery app that promises to deliver snacks, meals and drinks in roughly 10 to 15 minutes.
Earlier, in a letter to shareholders, Eternal Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Deepinder Goyal noted that through Bistro, the company is tapping into two demand pockets so far unaddressed by Zomato: customers looking for high-quality but low-cost meals and customers looking for snacky food in 10 minutes.
