Backed by a healthy demand for Indian-made products, Ganesh Chaturthi is set to kickstart the festive season with an estimated Rs 30,000 crore business, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (Cait).
A detailed breakdown by the industry body revealed an estimated business of Rs 12,000 crore from the Pandal setup, decoration and essentials, while Ganesha idols are expected to contribute around Rs 600 crore to the overall business. Rs 2,400 crore worth of business is expected from food and sweets, and tourism and transportation.
“Ganesh Chaturthi drives large-scale economic activity, especially in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Goa. The festival underscores the strength of the Sanatan Economy, where faith and tradition fuel domestic growth,” highlighted Praveen Khandelwal, Member of Parliament, Chandni Chowk and Cait Secretary General (Emeritus).
Cait noted that event management is likely to drive Rs 6,000 crore worth of business, while retail and merchandise, and catering and snacks are likely to account for Rs 3,600 crore. BC Bhartia, Cait’s National President, highlighted that more than 20 lakh Ganesh pandals have been set up across India, including seven lakh in Maharashtra, five lakh in Karnataka, two lakh each in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh, with the rest spread nationwide.
“Even at a conservative spend of Rs 50,000 per pandal on idols, decoration, sound, flowers, and setup, the business easily exceeds Rs 12,000 crore,” Bhartia added. Khandelwal emphasised that with Navratri, Dussehra, Karwa Chauth, Diwali, Chhath Puja and the wedding season ahead, India is entering a high-growth festive cycle.
