Cumulative exports of textiles and apparel in June registered a marginal uptick of 0.21 per cent on a YoY basis, Citi says
A sharp decline in India’s apparel exports in June kept the overall textile and apparel exports almost flat, as per the analysis by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (Citi). While textile exports grew 9.64 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in June, apparel exports registered degrowth of 11.25 per cent.
“During June 2026, Indian textiles exports registered a growth of 9.64 per cent over the previous year, while apparel exports registered a significant degrowth of -11.25 per cent during the same time period,” Citi said in its report.
Cumulative exports of textiles and apparel in June registered a marginal uptick of 0.21 per cent on a YoY basis. During April-June 2026, textiles exports grew 5.19 per cent, while apparel shipments declined 12.44 per cent during the same period on a YoY basis. As a result, cumulative exports of T&A during the first quarter of the current fiscal year reflected 2.95 per cent decline on a year-on-year basis.
“Combined textiles and apparel exports saw only 0.21 per cent growth in June 2026, while the cumulative April–June 2026 period recorded a 2.95 per cent decline compared to last year. The data reinforces a clear trend: textile exports continue to grow, while apparel remains under pressure. Bridging this gap will be critical for India’s export growth,” Citi added.
Exports of Key Items Down
The biggest dip was observed in the export of jute manufacturing, including floor covering, which fell 29.07 per cent in June. In Q1FY27, the export dipped 13.4 per cent. Citi’s analysis showed that carpet exports were also down, falling 5.82 per cent in June on a YoY basis.
In June, the exports of key items such as cotton yarn and handloom products grew 8.82 per cent to USD 1,012.38 million on a YoY basis. Exports of handicrafts excluding handmade carpet registered an uptick of 59.7 per cent to stand at USD 208.31 million, Citi said.
The total apparel exports in June 2026 stood at USD 1,162.33 million, down from USD 1,309.74 million in June 2025. On the other hand, textile exports surged to USD 1,745.34 million in June 2026 from USD 1,591.89 million in June 2025, Citi shared.
