The industry body says that suppliers across the country have indicated that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders to restaurants would be stopped
Amid reports of commercial LPG supply being halted in areas due to the West Asia Conflict, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has written a letter to the Centre, highlighting that any disruption will lead to a ‘catastrophic closure’ of majority of restaurants.
“The current concerns arise from Para 3 of the order, which directs all public sector OMCs to ensure that LPG is supplied/marketed solely to consumers of domestic LPG only. Immediately after the issue of this order, suppliers across the country have indicated that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders to restaurants would be therefore stopped,” the industry body said in its letter.
This, in turn, will have a severe negative impact on citizens due to the non-availability of food for their daily meals. It is reiterated that the supply of food is an inescapable essential service, which was identified as such even during Covid lockdowns, NRAI added.
“We most humbly request for your kind consideration and assistance in taking up the matter for continued support to the restaurant industry through sustained supply of commercial LPG cylinders. This will ensure business continuity and availability of food for citizens,” the industry body noted.
NRAI also pointed out that as per some news articles, the Government has clarified that there is no ban on the supply of commercial LPG cylinders for the restaurant industry. However, the ground situation is different, with suppliers expressing an inability to supply the same.
