Coca-Cola India Launches Coca-Cola In rPET Bottles, Boosting Sustainability Efforts

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Net Profit More Than Doubles To Rs 809 Cr In FY23

Coca-Cola India has unveiled its Coca-Cola cola brand in rPET bottles, with sizes ranging from 250 ml to 750 ml.

These bottles, produced by key bottling partners, are crafted from 100 per cent food-grade rPET, excluding caps and labels. The initiative aims to enhance consumer awareness regarding the recyclability of the packaging.

Moon Beverages, Coca-Cola’s franchise bottling partner, expressed enthusiasm about embracing plastic circularity in India through the use of recycled PET. The bottles made from food-grade rPET are not only recyclable but can be transformed into new bottles, contributing to sustainability efforts.

Coca-Cola, known for beverages like Sprite and Minute Maid, has already introduced 100 per cent rPET bottles in more than 40 markets, aligning with its goal of achieving 50 per cent recycled content in bottles by 2030.

Enrique Ackermann, Vice President of Technical and Innovation at Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia, highlighted the company’s commitment to increasing recycled content in packaging, promoting the use of refillable bottles, and actively engaging in the collection of packaging for recycling.

To facilitate recycling, Coca-Cola encourages consumers to return empty PET bottles at designated drop-off points or through reverse vending machines (RVMs). Additionally, the company collaborates with the e-commerce platform Zepto in a ‘return and recycle’ program, which focuses on directly collecting PET bottles from consumers.
