Dixon Technologies Opens New Noida Factory To Manufacture Xiaomi Smartphones

Dixon Technologies’ subsidiary, Padget Electronics, has unveiled its new Noida factory which will manufacture Xiaomi smartphones. The inauguration ceremony highlighted the investment of Rs 256 crore in this facility.

The manufacturing plant is expected to generate approximately 5,000 job opportunities. With an annual production capacity of 25 million units, the facility aims to challenge prevailing perceptions that India is merely assembling phones rather than engaging in intricate manufacturing processes.

Dixon Technologies’ Executive Chairman, Sunil Vachani, termed this development as a “momentous step” towards fortifying the local smartphone manufacturing ecosystem. Vachani expressed confidence in the collaboration, emphasizing how Dixon’s excellence and execution, combined with Xiaomi’s expertise, will contribute to India’s growing prowess in the smartphone industry.

Meanwhile IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, present at the inauguration, acknowledged the complexity of manufacturing witnessed at the Dixon facility, countering assertions that India’s involvement is limited to assembly. He further praised India’s emergence as a smartphone export hub, emphasizing that 99.2 per cent of mobile phones used domestically are now manufactured within the country.

This revelation coincides with India’s ambitious goal to achieve electronic goods production exceeding USD 300 billion by 2025-26. Minister Vaishnaw underscored the industry’s current worth, surpassing USD 44 billion, and the encouraging impact of government schemes and subsidies on manufacturers.
