India’s plastic exports witnessed a rise in February 2024, reaching USD 997 million. This represents a 14.3 per cent increase compared to February 2023, according to the Plastic Export Promotion Council (Plexconcil).
In addition, Plexconcil reported significant growth across several product categories, including plastic raw materials, films and sheets, woven sacks and floor coverings. However, exports in other sectors, such as writing instruments, consumer and houseware goods, human hair products and miscellaneous items, did not experience the same growth trajectory.
Additionally, this news comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding global plastic consumption and its environmental impact. While the reasons behind the rise in demand for certain plastic products remain unclear, Plexconcil highlighted its efforts to strengthen India’s position in the international plastic market.
The council’s upcoming event, Plexconcil 2024, scheduled for 7 to 9 June, aims to facilitate further collaboration with international buyers.
Further investigation is needed to understand the specific factors driving the growth in specific plastic exports. Furthermore, it remains to be seen whether this trend will continue in the coming months.
