Wipro Consumer Strengthens Soap Grip with Jo, Doy, Bacter Shield Acquisition

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting has completed the acquisition of personal care brands Jo, Doy, and Bacter Shield from VVF (India), marking its 15th acquisition to date and the third in the past twelve months.

This move reflects the company’s plan to expand its presence in the personal wash segment, as its already existing portfolio includes popular brands like Santoor and Chandrika.

The Jo toilet soap has a significant market presence in North, East and West India. Doy operates in the premium soap segment, while Bacter Shield offers an antibacterial range of soap and handwash products.

This transaction follows Wipro Consumer Care’s December acquisition of the Nirapara brand, a Kerala-based entity owned by the KKR Group. This marked Wipro’s entry into the packaged snacks, spices, and ready-to-cook food segments, demonstrating the company’s diversified growth strategy.

VVF, the former owner of these acquired brands, is a contract manufacturer in India, producing a wide range of personal care products, including soaps, shampoos, conditioners, hand sanitizers, creams and lotions.

Wipro Consumer Care’s product portfolio also includes the Glucovita energy drink and home care items such as Safewash liquid detergent, Softouch fabric conditioner and Yardley talcum powder and deodorants.

In the fiscal year 2023, Wipro Consumer Care achieved sales of Rs10,000 crore, with 51 per cent of this revenue coming from its international operations. Its flagship Santoor brand reported sales exceeding Rs2,650 crore.
