The reports state that Jeyandran Venugopal will likely be seen leading the consumer-facing businesses of Reliance Industries
Jeyandran Venugopal, the former Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) at Flipkart, is likely to step in as Chief Executive of Reliance Retail Ventures. The development comes on the back of his stepping down from the role in February, according to media reports.
The reports added that Venugopal will likely be seen leading the consumer-facing arm of Reliance Industries, which has platforms like Reliance Brands, JioMart, Ajio and others under operation. The move by Reliance is being seen as a strategic step to reinforce the retail narrative as tech-led, the reports added.
In his role at Flipkart, Venugopal led a team that covered product management, engineering, design, user research, data science, IT, security, infrastructure and product operations. Earlier, the media reports added that the news of Venugopal stepping down in Flipkart was notified through an internal memo by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kalyan Krishnamurthy.
As far as his experience is concerned, Venugopal has also served as the CPTO at Myntra Jabong, where he led all the product and technology functions for Myntra and Jabong, including product management and engineering for the Myntra and Jabong storefronts, supply chain, CRM, data platforms and products.
A subsidiary of Reliance Industries, Reliance Retail Ventures reported an 8.8 per cent uptick in its revenue on a year-on-year basis to Rs 90,333 crore for the quarter that ended December 2024. The company’s net profit grew by 10 per cent to Rs 3,485 crore, as per the reports. The reports added that it had raised USD one billion from Qatar Investment Authority two years ago.
