Ecommerce major strengthens warehousing, logistics and community partnerships in Assam and beyond ahead of festive season
Flipkart, India’s homegrown ecommerce marketplace, has announced a major expansion of its supply chain network and community initiatives across Assam and the Northeast, aiming to boost infrastructure, employment and market access for local sellers, artisans and farmers.
The Northeast has emerged as one of Flipkart’s fastest-growing markets, recording 35–40 per cent annual growth driven by rising aspirations and digital adoption. To meet this demand, Flipkart has built more than 6 lakh sq. ft. of warehousing capacity in Guwahati, including large, non-large and grocery warehouses. In Tripura, the company has launched a new grocery fulfilment centre in Agartala, capable of dispatching 5,000 orders a day.
Scaling logistics and festive readiness
Flipkart is rapidly scaling its Micro Fulfilment Centres (MFCs) under its Flipkart Minutes quick commerce arm. Nine MFCs already live in Guwahati, with more in the pipeline ahead of the festive season, ensuring faster access to essentials, groceries and other high-demand categories.
Across the Northeast, Flipkart operates 391 small-format hubs, including 31 in Guwahati, strengthening last-mile reach. In preparation for peak demand, the company has created over 2.2 lakh seasonal jobs across warehousing, logistics and delivery roles, with inclusive hiring for persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups.
Empowering local sellers and farmers
Assam now has over 1 lakh sellers on Flipkart’s platform, with categories such as ethnic wear, footwear, grooming and home furnishings driving growth. Under Samarth Krishi, farmers from Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh are supplying produce such as pineapples, strawberries, lemons and baby kiwi to markets in Ranchi, Patna and Kolkata.
Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, said: “The Northeast is one of India’s fastest-growing markets, and Flipkart is proud to be a long-term partner in its growth story. As we head into the festive season, our expanded presence in the region will bring speed, convenience and festive joy to millions of customers, while creating livelihoods and strengthening regional entrepreneurship.”
Sustainability and circular economy
Flipkart reaffirmed its goal of transitioning to 100 per cent electric vehicles in last-mile deliveries by 2030. Through Flipkart Reset, the company is strengthening the circular economy, with nearly 30 per cent of its mobile exchange and trade-in activity now coming from the Northeast. Over 2,000 distributors and retailers in the region are engaged in these programmes, which support reuse and affordable access while generating sustainable livelihoods.
With these moves, Flipkart positions itself not only as a leading ecommerce player but also as a key enabler of economic growth in the Northeast, building infrastructure, generating jobs and empowering local entrepreneurship.
