Apparel retailer uses Women’s Day to spotlight gender mix and frontline consumer insights
Cantabil Retail India highlighted that women account for nearly 60 per cent of its workforce at its Bahadurgarh manufacturing unit, signalling a broader gender diversity trend in India’s labour-intensive apparel sector. The disclosure came as part of the company’s International Women’s Day outreach, during which it conducted engagement activities across its 650-plus retail stores, manufacturing operations, and corporate office.
While the celebrations included internal recognition programmes, the company used the occasion to underline the growing role of women across functions such as manufacturing, merchandising, retail operations, and corporate roles, areas traditionally seeing gradual but uneven gender participation.
Industry observers note that higher women’s participation at the factory level is becoming a key lever for apparel companies, especially as firms look to improve productivity, stability in workforce, and compliance with global sourcing standards.
Cantabil also pointed to the role of women employees in influencing consumer-facing decisions. Teams across its retail network contribute insights into evolving fashion preferences and buying behaviour, which the company said helps align merchandising and product strategies with market demand.
Deepak Bansal, Whole-Time Director, said, “At Cantabil, women are an integral part of our workforce and contribute significantly across operations, retail, and corporate functions. Their dedication, creativity, and understanding of customer preferences bring valuable perspectives to the organisation.”
The company, however, did not disclose overall gender diversity figures at the organisational level or any specific hiring targets, even as diversity metrics increasingly become a focus area for investors and global partners in the retail and apparel supply chain.
