Kashmiri Label Tul Palav Pays Tribute To Heritage In Mumbai

At a time of national mourning, the designer brand’s showcase honours Kashmir’s resilient spirit, artisans, and timeless culture

As the nation mourns the tragic attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, Tul Palav, a distinctive Kashmiri designer brand, brought a message of resilience and cultural pride to Mumbai through a heartfelt heritage display. Held at the Taj Lands End on April 27, the event showcased the brand’s latest collection, Matamaal, spotlighting Kashmir’s rich legacy and artisanal traditions.

Far from being a conventional fashion showcase, Matamaal served as a tribute to the enduring spirit of Kashmir, celebrating its cultural wealth at a moment when it risks being overshadowed by conflict. “As the whole nation grieves… its resilient spirit endures, inspiring us to come together,” said Iqra, Tul Palav’s founder and head designer.

Cultural icons including Vishal and Rekha Bhardwaj, filmmakers Imtiaz Ali, Onir, Sajid Ali, and actors Saumya Tandon and Simple Kaul graced the occasion, reinforcing a shared call to preserve Kashmir’s cultural identity. Prominent stylists and fashion influencers from Mumbai were also in attendance. The evening concluded with high tea and a moving Rabab performance by renowned Kashmiri musician Adnan Manzoor.

Iqra described the new collection as an embodiment of Kashmir’s strength, soul, and timeless artistry. Designed with a deep respect for authenticity, the garments blend traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. The collection features reinvented pherans in airy fabrics like Chanderi silk, Mukaish georgette, chikankari, and pure silk—making this once seasonal silhouette wearable year-round.

Tul Palav’s pieces range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1.5 lakhs, offering luxury with a purpose. Each garment is handmade by master artisans, keeping alive fading crafts such as Tilla embroidery and Ladakhi Pashmina weaving.

Founded in 2015, Tul Palav is Iqra’s labour of love—born out of a mission to revive Kashmiri tradition at a time when few women led fashion ventures in the valley. Today, alongside her husband, who left his corporate career in the US to join her, Iqra leads a brand that marries memory with modernity—showcasing not just fashion, but a resilient identity that deserves to thrive.
