Inside The Wellness Co.: Building India’s Next-Gen Recovery Economy

Rishabh Jain, Co-Founder, The Wellness Co., in conversation with BW Retail World on scaling advanced recovery therapies and India’s preventive wellness shift

The clinic-led retail wellness model is still evolving in India. What gap did The Wellness Co. identify?
One of the biggest gaps was awareness. Globally, especially in the US and Europe, advanced recovery and immunity therapies are widely understood and adopted. In India, access to both knowledge and solutions was limited.

We saw that while global consumers were proactive about health optimisation, India largely followed a reactive approach. Post-COVID, this mindset has begun to shift. People now see health as an investment. We stepped in to bridge this gap by offering a comprehensive suite of therapies tailored to individual wellness journeys.

Therapies like red light and oxygen therapy are still nascent in India. How are you driving awareness and trust?
Awareness remains at an early stage—even among medical professionals. Our approach is deeply doctor-led. Clients are guided through every therapy, supported by credible research, certifications, and medical expertise.

We focus on education across platforms—whether through content or collaborations—ensuring consumers understand both the science and suitability of treatments. Trust is built by ensuring that every therapy is personalised and medically supervised.

With growing scrutiny around influencer-led wellness content, how do you ensure credibility?
Credibility is non-negotiable. Any influencer we work with undergoes detailed consultations with our doctors before sharing their experience.

We also ensure that our medical experts are part of the content, reinforcing that therapies should not be self-administered. Every treatment is conducted under strict medical supervision by qualified professionals.

What are the key operational and regulatory challenges in scaling this model?
The primary challenge is awareness—among consumers, regulators, and even industry stakeholders. We invest heavily in educating authorities about our therapies, many of which are US FDA-certified.

Operationally, sourcing advanced technologies from markets like the US, Japan, and Korea requires rigorous compliance and approvals. Despite these complexities, our focus remains on maintaining the highest standards of safety and transparency.

How do you balance medical credibility with consumer experience?
Our approach is firmly healthcare-driven. Every Wellness Co. clinic is staffed with MBBS and MD doctors, physiotherapists, and nutrition experts who design personalised plans.

We continuously monitor outcomes and adapt protocols based on individual responses. This integration of medical science with user experience is what differentiates us in a crowded wellness market.

How is demand for recovery-focused therapies evolving in India?
Demand is rising rapidly, driven by increasing fitness awareness. Our roots in professional sports shaped our focus on recovery and performance optimisation.

Today, not just athletes but everyday consumers are seeking solutions for fatigue, stress, and lifestyle-related issues. Collaborations with professional athletes have also helped build credibility and accelerate adoption.

How do you view the role of celebrity wellness and the broader evolution of the sector?
Celebrity-led wellness has amplified awareness, which is ultimately positive. It encourages consumers to engage with their health more proactively.

India is transitioning from a reactive to a preventive healthcare mindset. Longevity, lifestyle diseases, and holistic well-being are becoming central conversations. As this shift accelerates, we see significant opportunities to shape the category through credible, science-backed solutions.
