Birla Opus’ overall capacity has grown to 1,096 million litre per annum (MLPA), with the launch of the fifth plant at Mahad, Maharashtra
As the company’s decorative paints organised industry capacity share rose over 21 per cent, Birla Opus, the paints business of Grasim Industries, has become the second-largest player in the Indian decorative paints industry in terms of installed capacity, the company stated in an investor presentation.
With the launch of fifth plant at Mahad, Birla Opus’ overall capacity has grown to 1,096 million litre per annum (MLPA) out of the planned total capacity of 1,332 MLPA. The company noted that the trial run production from the sixth plant at Kharagpur will commence in the first quarter of the current fiscal (Q1FY26) and commercialisation in the first half of FY26 (H1FY26).
In terms of distribution, it has the second-largest depot network with pan-India presence across 137 depots. Sharing the performance update for Q4FY25, the company added that the exclusive Birla Opus franchisee and company stores have expanded to over 300 towns.
In terms of H2FY25 media spends, Birla Opus has become the second-most visible paints brand, the company reported. On a capital expenditure front, the company noted that the total capex spent stood at Rs 9,352 crore as on 31st March 2025, around 94 per cent of the total project cost.
