Swedish retailer to deepen regional footprint with a mix of city-format and large-format stores as it expands its India network
Swedish furniture retailer Ikea plans to expand its presence across the Delhi-NCR region to around six stores over the next few years, betting on growing demand in one of its key markets in India, a senior company executive said on Tuesday.
The expansion will span Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad through a mix of city-format and large-format stores. Ikea India Country Commercial Manager Adosh Sharma said the retailer sees enough potential to operate about six outlets across the National Capital Region over the next couple of years.
The announcement comes as Ikea unveiled its second city-format store in Delhi-NCR at DLF Avenue, Saket. Spread across nearly 30,000 sq ft, the outlet is scheduled to open on July 30 and will cater to customers in South and Central Delhi as well as neighbouring areas.
With the Saket launch, Ikea will have two city-format stores in the region, alongside its outlet at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden. The company has also earmarked Noida and Gurugram for future large-format stores, while Sharma said there is scope to add another two outlets as the retailer expands its regional network.
Ikea entered the Delhi-NCR market through its ecommerce platform in 2025 before opening its first physical store in Tagore Garden, supported by a central distribution centre in Gurugram. The company said insights from its initial operations in the region have helped shape its expansion plans. Delhi-NCR now has more than 300,000 Ikea Family members, reflecting a growing customer base.
The regional expansion is part of Ikea India’s broader growth roadmap. Earlier this month, Chief Executive Officer Patrik Antoni said the company aims to operate around 30 stores across India by 2030 through a combination of large-format and city-format outlets.
The retailer has also introduced plans to more than double its investment in India to over Rs 21,000 crore by 2030 while strengthening its omnichannel presence. Its ecommerce platform currently serves customers across several northern cities, including Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana and Varanasi.
On the evolving retail landscape, Sharma said Ikea sees growing opportunities in e-commerce and quick commerce as the model expands beyond grocery into other product categories. However, he said the company is continuing to study the segment and its operating model before making any commitments, adding that Ikea does not want to rush into launching services without fully assessing the opportunity.
The Saket store will offer home furnishing planning services along with delivery, assembly and installation support. Customers will also have access to an Ikea Café.
