The company has scaled the category through direct sourcing, tech-led procurement, and it has marked a shift from transactional procurement to strategic partnerships with farmers.
Zepto, a quick commerce platform, has scaled its fresh supply chain fourfold over the past year, with units sold per day surging to 22.1 lakh as compared to 6.4 lakh units earlier, the company informed in a statement.
Zepto has scaled the category through direct sourcing, tech-led procurement, and it has marked a shift from transactional procurement to strategic partnerships with farmers. The firm works directly with farmers across over 70 collection centres, as per the official statement, which added that these are strategically located hubs where produce is graded, packed, and dispatched within 12 hours of harvest.
“We have built depth on automated packaging, cold storage, procurement control, ripening and more! More importantly, we have partnered with thousands of farmers directly and helped scale their businesses along with ours,” Aadit Palicha, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zepto, wrote in a LinkedIn post.
Palicha added that fruits and vegetables are the largest category of consumption in India today. He noted that the company has a generational opportunity to build a world-class supply chain at a huge scale over the next 10 years. By decentralising procurement, investing in farmer ecosystems, and embedding technology into every layer of the supply chain, Zepto is doubling down on this front.
