Milkmaid Marks World Kheer Day, Celebrating India’s Beloved Dessert

Nestlé Milkmaid marks 30 November as World Kheer Day, honouring a dessert that unites India through warmth, nostalgia and shared tradition

Nestlé Milkmaid has declared 30 November as World Kheer Day, a celebration dedicated to India’s most cherished dessert. For generations, kheer has been a fixture in homes across the country – a dish of comfort, celebration and nostalgia, prepared in countless variations yet carrying the same emotional warmth everywhere.

“Kheer connects generations across India,” said Manav Sahni, Head, Dairy Business, Nestlé India. “It is made differently from region to region, but the feeling it evokes remains the same. With Milkmaid, we hope consumers can enjoy rich, creamy kheer made easily at home.”

From North India’s rice kheer and sabudana kheer during fasts to the celebratory sheer khurma of Eid, Maharashtra’s sheviyanchi kheer, Bengal’s beloved payesh, Odisha’s traditional kheeri and the South’s comforting payasam varieties, the dessert changes form but never loses its essence.

With over a century of making desserts simpler and more delicious, Milkmaid now invites households across India to celebrate World Kheer Day by preparing their favourite version. Recipes and preparation ideas are available on the Milkmaid website to help home cooks recreate the joy of this enduring dessert.
