Heritage Foods has clarified its position after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a show-cause notice over the use of the expressions ‘Fresh Paneer’ and ‘Health and Happiness’ on its product packaging.
In its response, the company said that Heritage Paneer is manufactured using pasteurised milk of high quality under hygienic conditions, while preserving the intrinsic nature of the product. The product label clearly carries all mandatory declarations, including ingredients used, nutritional information, manufacturing date and use-by date, enabling consumers to make an informed choice, the company added.
“As we use no preservatives, we store and transport under refrigerated conditions to ensure that consumers can enjoy the freshness of our safe and hygienic product. in our response to FSSAI, we have clarified that ‘Fresh Paneer’ describes the product’s fresh, refrigerated and preservative-free nature, while ‘Health and Happiness’ reflects our long-standing brand philosophy along with being a part of our composite registered trademark and is not intended as a product-level health claim,” stated Srideep Kesavan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Heritage Foods.
Kesavan said that the company is working with the regulatory authorities on the brand name and label-related queries and to ensure that consumers always get the right information regarding its products.
