Under the partnership, BL Agro will invest Rs 1,660 crore over the next five years to build a greenfield integrated agro-processing project
BL Agro, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) player, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) to establish a large-scale, export-oriented integrated agro-processing hub in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
Under the partnership, BL Agro will invest Rs 1,660 crore over the next five years to build a greenfield integrated agro-processing project. The facility will house a fully automated rice milling unit for premium basmati rice, a 500 TPD edible oil extraction and refining plant under the company’s flagship Bail Kolhu and Nourish brands, advanced packaging lines, sugar storage solutions, and a 40,000 MT grain storage capacity.
Construction is expected to begin within six months, with Phase I scheduled for completion in 2027. The project is expected to create 3,500 direct and indirect jobs, strengthening rural livelihoods while driving inclusive growth in Uttar Pradesh’s agri-economy.
The agreement was formalised on Friday at the second day of World Food India 2025 held at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi. The MoU was inked by Ashish Khandelwal, Managing Director of BL Agro Group, and Preet Pal Singh, Joint Secretary, MoFPI, in the presence of A.P. Das Joshi, Secretary and Shyam Singh Negi, Senior Economic Advisor, MoFPI.
Ashish Khandelwal said the collaboration reflects BL Agro’s long-term commitment to building world-class food processing infrastructure. “The partnership with MoFPI is designed to enhance food security, boost exports and create sustainable value chains for farmers and rural communities. We are integrating circular economy practices such as by-product utilization in cattle feed and renewable energy adoption to set new benchmarks in sustainable food processing,” he added.
Commenting on the initiative, Shri Preet Pal Singh and Secretary A.P. Das Joshi said that the MoU aligns with the government’s priority of attracting large-scale private investment in food processing. “By promoting modern infrastructure and sustainable practices, this collaboration will expand export opportunities, enable greater farmer linkages, and reinforce India’s position in global agri-trade,” the officials said.
As part of the agreement, MoFPI will provide facilitation support for statutory clearances to ensure timely project execution.
