Categories such as party supplies, gifting essentials, snacks and beverages, beauty, personal care and grooming and viral items including grapes saw high growth on the platforms
As the world geared up to welcome 2026, the Spanish custom of eating 12 grapes to welcome the year stole the show on the New Year’s Eve in India. Across quick commerce ecosystem, the urban population rushed to order the fruit to celebrate the ritual, to manifest goals for the coming year.
Sharing the numbers, Phani Kishan Addepalli, the Co-founder of Swiggy noted that the last hour of 2025 saw a 15-times (15x) surge in demand for grapes. Cakes, beverages, party glasses, pizza bases were the trending items on the quick commerce platform Swiggy Instamart.
“The last hour of 2025 is looking like this. Grapes 15x, cakes 7x, BBQ-related items 6x, beverages 3.5x, party glasses 2.5x, calendars and planners 1.5x and Pizza bases: 1.8x. Bengaluru shopper picked up two iPhones for Rs 1.8 lakh. 2026 has officially arrived in style. Tonight’s most heartwarming Instamart stat was that nearly one in nine NYE orders were placed for friends and family,” Addepalli wrote on X.
Aadit Palicha, the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zepto, shared an image of box of grapes on LinkedIn, indicating the surge in demand for the item and wrote, “Good luck for 2026”. Instamart CEO Amitesh Jha pointed out that 2025 saw quick Commerce move beyond groceries and emergency top-ups to become part of daily life. From milk and fresh produce to electronics, gifting, and even gold, consumers ordered it all from quick commerce, he added.
“New Year’s Eve once again surprises us with orders beyond essentials as Indian consumers turn to quick commerce platforms for every kind of need. Categories such as party supplies, gifting essentials, snacks and beverages, beauty, personal care, and grooming, and viral items such as grapes are seeing high growth on the platform,” stated Amitesh Jha, CEO, Instamart.
While the nationwide strike called by the gig workers raised concerns over the deliveries on NYE, media reports noted that the food delivery platforms saw around 99 per cent uptime throughout the day. Companies also rolled out incentives for the delivery workers during the period, as per the reports.
Rohit Kapoor, Swiggy’s CEO for food marketplace, shared that Bolt, the quick delivery facility of the food delivery major, saw a healthy growth during the NYE. He also added that Pizza emerged as the first popular order of 2026.
“Bolt orders are moving fast, and so are food preferences. Four users from Nadiad and Halol ordered food worth a total of Rs 50,472 via Bolt. The menu said it all: Korean Soup, Manchurian Dry. When Korean soup shows up in Gujarat, you know the night is serious,” he wrote on X.
Kapoor also pointed out that dineout saw healthy growth, as Bengaluru and Hyderabad called the shots as diners chose to head out and celebrate. Emerging cities showed strong momentum, too, as bookings picked up sharply in Ahmedabad (1.6×), Jaipur (1.2×) and Lucknow (1.3×).
