Tata Starbucks unveiled its plan to operate 1,000 stores in India by 2028, translating to the opening of a new store every three days.
The strategic vision, articulated on Tuesday, revolves around empowering local partners with skills for employment, creating new stores designed to offer customers an elevated experience, and promoting Indian-origin coffee globally.
Established as a 50:50 joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Consumer Products in 2012, Tata Starbucks currently boasts a presence in over 390 stores across 54 Indian cities. Approximately 4,300 partners proudly wear the iconic green apron as they contribute to the brand’s success.
Laxman Narasimhan, CEO of Starbucks, currently on a visit to India, expressed pride in the country’s growth, citing it as one of Starbucks’ fastest-growing markets globally over the past 11 years. With a focus on cultivating India’s evolving coffee culture and honouring its rich heritage, Narasimhan emphasised the strategic partnership with Tata and the commitment to opening a new store every three days to further the aspiration of becoming a truly global brand.
To achieve the ambitious goal of 1,000 stores by 2028, Tata Starbucks plans to double its workforce to approximately 8,600 partners. The expansion strategy includes entering Tier 2 and 3 cities in India, expanding drive-thrus, airports, and the 24-hour store footprint to cater to customers across diverse locations.
As part of its long-term commitment to enhancing the coffee experience in India, Tata Starbucks is set to open the second Starbucks Reserve® store this year. This move is aimed at catering to the preferences of coffee enthusiasts seeking premium experiences, creating unique moments of connection through the artistry and craft of Starbucks® black apron Coffee Masters.
